Do what I did. Its easy. And the chicks dig it.

Kinja'd!!!

First, figure out where you want to mount everything. Use the internet for help. Someone’s probably done it. Then modify their plans to fit your desires.

For instance, where better to mount the relay than inside the battery box? Its nice and dry, close to the battery, makes half of the wiring job a cakewalk.

Kinja'd!!!

See that tiny hole I drilled under the tab?

Kinja'd!!!

Boom. Relay. Now to run the wires. You have a + and a - off the relay to the battery, to which I used a fused wire for the + right to the + post.

Its not recommended in the instructions to fuse the wire, but why not add a little fire resistance for safety?

The - I ran right to the - post on the battery because why not?

Kinja'd!!!

Now we have a power wire from the horn to connect to the relay to make it click when you hit the button/airbag/switch, and a power wire to the shiny new horns you.... oh yeah, forgot to show you how I mounted them. Well, just wait till the end.

For now, take a look at how I wired the relay (terminals were temporary)

Kinja'd!!!

Red is power to the battery, small black is the ground, blue is the signal from the horn, big black is power to the horns.

Kinja'd!!!

There’s the two wires I need to extend to the front of the car... now you see ‘em...

Kinja'd!!!

Now you don’t! Well, you see the ends of them. The Mazda3 has a duct for cooling the battery with air picked up behind the grille. I used that as a conduit to hide my wires. I’M SO NOVEL.

Kinja'd!!!

That done, a split made for the big black wire to power both horns and for the blue wire I connected to the signal wire I had extended when I had the bumper off a while ago.

I also made a Y harness for the grounds to attach to both horns and bolted that down to a bolt on the bumper beam. I sheathed the power wires in some convoluted tubing I had left over, and zip tied it all back and out of the way of moving parts and sharp edges.

Kinja'd!!!

For mounting the horns I used the existing hood latch mounting holes, removed the metal protector for the airbag sensor (I need to trim it and re-install but for now: YOLO), turnt the right horn’s bracket 45 degrees so that the terminals were on the bottom like the left horn’s, used a longer bolt and a lug nut as a spacer for each (it works, shush) to get them closer to the grille (didn’t want to, had to trim a bit) and also to keep the terminals free from hitting the core support, hood latch, and airbag sensor wiring. (had to)

They look good back there, match the black and red theme in the interior, and are hardly visible unless you have a camera with a flash.

Kinja'd!!!

Flash

Kinja'd!!!

No flash + poor garage lighting

And of course you want to hear them

First beep is low tone, second is high, third is both together. Because a good installer checks all his wiring connections in series before hooking it all up and causing explosions and death.

I just did this last night and everyone behaved themselves on the road today (so far) so I haven’t tested them in a real-world scenario.

Hopefully soon.

Shoulda gone for a Cadillac quad-note horn.

I have Caddy 4-notes on my 4Runner, and Hella Supertones on my MR2. Hearing what sounds like 15 tons of american iron coming at you, and seeing a little Japanese sports car, your brain will only get confused. I need the person I’m honking at to associate the sound with the visual, and GTFO my way

Too sissy for me. I swapped 1st gen dual GS300 horns on my Mazdaspeed3. They sound like Thor himself singing opera.

When I first installed supertones in my MR2 I just plugged them into the stock wiring. It worked but they were super dull. Once I had them wired up properly, using the stock wiring to trip a relay giving the horns full power they are properly loud.

I also put them on my wagon after being nearly run off the road twice within 15 minutes one evening. Ain’t nobody gonna merge in on some full-volume supertones.

Stock horn was weak and sounded like a dying giraffe. For a $50 upgrade it was a no brainer.

Lol might do this to my Altima.

Dont wanna do any obvious mods because ..well it’s an Altima. But I have the itch to do somthing with it ...to find some passion for it.

Maybe I was expecting more, but I have to say I was a little disappointed when I installed them on my Crosstrek. Sure, they were louder than the stock horn for sure, but they weren’t ear piercing like I was hoping for. Only time they seemed really loud is if I was directly in front of the car when I was turning the alarm on. Then again, I added significant sound deadening to my car when I had it. Don't think I ever really laid on the horn when I had the windows down.

If I go aftermarket again, I’ll probably go with a Wolo Bad Boy.

They were loud in the garage :/

I’ll have to test them on some unsuspecting pedestrians sometime. Or my kids.

You could totally put some race slicks on it and then you have a race car! Or a crazy audio system, those are fun!
